Our Program
The Power of Play
We believe play is instrumental in the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of children. Our play-based learning gives children a sense of their own abilities and helps each child to feel good about themselves. As children play, they learn to solve problems, to get along with others and to develop the fine and gross motor skills needed to prepare them for kindergarten. Our space invites children to wonder, discover, make choices, experience and, most importantly, learn through play.
The Reggio Approach
Our program is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. Learning is hands-on, child-led, and deeply engaging. We offer exciting and stimulating opportunities for children to grow in an environment that values full participation, self-determination and a belief in the unlimited potential of the child.
Beyond Four Walls
There is an emphasis on outdoor activities and education at Blue Quill playschool. We love to go outside and explore the world around us, and do so every day!
We believe creativity emerges from multiple experiences and environments. In addition to our regular program children participate in monthly music and yoga classes, we go on field trips and enjoy in-class presentations.
We are a Cooperative Program
The success of our program relies heavily on the participation of all our families. There is no formal requirement for parent duty days, however, parents/guardians are welcome and strongly encouraged to sign up to help in the classroom. We believe that parents are a child’s first, and most important, teachers. Participating as a classroom helper allows you to share in your child’s playschool experience and see their progress first hand.
Volunteering:
All parents will be assigned a volunteer role for the class, which may or may not include participation in some cleaning days. Whenever possible we try and assign jobs based on parental preference. A complete list of positions is part of the registration package.
Fundraising:
In order to keep our fees as low as possible, and for the playschool to provide the highest level of learning for the children, Blue Quill Playschool relies on fundraising activities. Each family must fully participate and meet the requirements of these activities.
